Summary
Title:CHEDDAR - Tour Guide - Seasonal
ID:CD45 / 2817
Department:Cheddar Gorge & Caves
Description
Cheddar Gorge and Caves (part of the Longleat Enterprises group) is a world-famous site set in an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty and is one of Britain's most spectacular natural landmarks. From its awe-inspiring cliffs to its extraordinary subterranean stalactite show caves, Cheddar Gorge & Caves holds many fascinating secrets about our prehistoric ancestors and is an international centre for caving and rock climbing. At 400ft deep and 3 miles long, England’s largest gorge with its spectacular pinnacles and beautiful caves (one is over 500,000 years old!) offer visitors an exciting day out all year round.

The team at Cheddar Gorge embrace the same values as their colleagues at Longleat – to engage and inspire; to put people first, treating everyone with respect; to continuously improve; to act with integrity and to take safety seriously.

What will this role of Tour Guide entail?

As a Tour Guide, you’ll provide exciting and intriguing guided tours throughout the Caves and the Museum, showcasing the knowledge you’ve acquired through training on local history and geology and flora and fauna. You’ll get to perform eye catching demonstrations of prehistoric survival techniques, including fire lighting and flint knapping.

You’ll be the first point of contact to our guests as they arrive, where you’ll welcome and provide them with a brief but informative insight into the incredible activities on offer ahead of their day.

This is an exciting and diverse role where you will need to be flexible in an ever-changing environment, utilising your exceptional communication and team work skills to ensure that all guests have a unique, immersive and safe time whilst visiting Cheddar Gorge and Caves.

What will I need to be considered for this Tour Guide vacancy?

For this Tour Guide vacancy, you will need proven experience of providing tours or sharing information to groups of people, and an enthusiastic, helpful and self-motivated attitude. You’ll also need excellent verbal communication skills to deliver clear and coherent tours. Unfortunately, we can’t control the Great British weather (though we wish we could!), so you’ll also need to be willing to work outdoors in all weather conditions.

Although not essential, knowledge of prehistory, geology, Victorian history and experience of till operation would be highly advantageous for this role.

What will I receive in return?

You will receive a pay rate that exceeds National Minimum Wage / National Living Wage, in addition to a range of attractive benefits that include; 29 days holiday inclusive of bank holidays (pro rata), complimentary tickets to Longleat and Cheddar Gorge and Caves, discounts on food and beverages and retail merchandise, along with life assurance cover and more perks.

Contract Type: Seasonal (fixed term contract), until the 30th of January 2019. Immediate starts available.

Hours of Work: Working 5 days out of 7 including weekends and bank holidays. Start and finish times will vary in accordance with opening times.

Location: Cheddar (Somerset)
