What will this role of Senior Gardener entail?

Reporting to the Head Gardener, as a Senior Gardener you’ll assist with the day to day maintenance and development of the gardens, taking delegated responsibility for aspects of the work and ensuring the highest standards of conservation, horticulture and guest experience at all times. Your duties will include, although not be limited to:
  • Cutting and maintaining lawns to a variety of finishes using various machines including ride on mowers, strimmers and brushcutters
  • Pruning wall shrubs and climbers and maintaining herbaceous borders including weeding, staking, pruning and mulching
  • Planting, feeding and watering displays in formal gardens and attraction areas
  • Planning and scheduling work including seasonal displays and any projects set out by the Head Gardener
  • Clearing leaves, litter picking and maintaining indoor plants within offices and reception rooms
  • Supporting the Grounds Team with maintenance across the wider estate when required
You will also be responsible for leading a small team in the absence of the Head Gardener when required.

What will I need to be considered for this Senior Gardener vacancy?
  • Proven experience as a professional gardener / horticulturalist
  • Qualified to RHS Level 2 or equivalent
  • Hold a PA1 PA 6A Pesticides certificate
  • Full UK driving licence
  • Competent with machinery / equipment and maintenance, including tractors, chainsaws and pedestrian mowers
  • Strong attention to detail

What will I receive in return?
As a Senior Gardener you will receive a salary of (GBP) 18,000 to (GBP) 21,000, level dependent on experience, in addition to a range of attractive benefits that include; 29 days holiday inclusive of bank holidays, complimentary tickets to Longleat and Cheddar Gorge and Caves, discounts on food and beverages and retail merchandise, along with life assurance cover and more perks.

You’ll be hired on a permanent basis, with variable working hours per week, comprising 5 days out of 7. Due to the nature of the business, you will be required to work weekends and bank holidays, with start and finish times varying in accordance with opening hours.
